Music Program

Christ Anglican Music Program begins in the Nursery and continues through Sunday School. It includes the Cherub Choir, Jubilate Choir and Cantus Ensemble.

Cherub Choir

Children receive musical instruction during 9:20 AM Christian Education. In the Nursery simple melodies and text are introduced to tune in the musical ear and develop rhythmic ability and an understanding of group singing. The two and three year old children from the Nursery combined with the four and five year old children in the Sunday School comprise the Cherub Choir. The Cherub Choir sings one Sunday each semester at the 10:30 service and also at the Christmas Pageant.

Sunday School Music

Music class takes place during Sunday School. In this class children learn songs that reinforce scripture as well as music and hymns sung in the church service. Although the focus of Sunday School is on having fun and learning Bible stories, the study of music theory and ear training is an underlying theme. Children who attend these classes will become familiar with singing. A child who becomes comfortable singing in a group setting, can then join Jubilate for further musical education.

Jubilate

Jubilate is a music class for the members and friends of Christ Anglican Church. Its purpose is to provide education for the musical aspects of worship in the church service. It is designed as a family choir and is for all ages, however, parents need not attend with their children and young children may attend on their own as long as they are able to remain engaged in the learning process. Adults may attend with or without their families. All are welcome.

The class meets at 4:30 PM on Wednesdays and is divided into two semesters. The first semester begins the last week in August, and ends the first week in December. The second semester begins in January and ends shortly after Easter. The class focuses on developing a musical ear and learning to sing in tune, reading music, simple music theory, and singing together as a choir, participating in church services one Sunday a month.

Jubilate can meet the needs of parishioners in several ways. Children desiring to pursue music in their lives can develop a strong musical foundation in this course of study. Young parishioners can more easily transition from Sunday School and Confirmation Class to joining adults in church services through Jubilate. Adults desiring to join the Cantus Ensemble can refresh, relearn or educate themselves musically at Jubilate before joining. Most importantly, however, parishioners can experience the joyful aspects of music in worship.

Cantus Ensemble

The Cantus Ensemble is the primary choral group singing at Christ Anglican Church every Sunday at the 10:30 service. The repertoire is varied from ancient to modern, leaning toward traditional, classical music of a high caliber. Cantus is open to singers who are able to practice and learn their parts on their own in order to maintain excellence in performance with minimal rehearsal, meeting from 9:45-10:25 Sunday mornings. Choral leader, Eileen Mager, provides personal coaching and direction as needed, as does accompanist organist/pianist, Karen Janusz. This is a friendly, mutually supportive group of musicians who are enthusiastic about the music they sing. Visitors are welcome.
