Sermon XVII Trinity Father Ory Schultheis October 12, 2025

“and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” (Eph. 4:4, 5)

The Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity

The Collect

LORD, we pray thee that thy grace may always prevent and follow us, and make us continually to be given to all good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

The Epistle Eph. 4:1

I THEREFORE, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

The Gospel St. Luke 14:1

IT came to pass, as Jesus went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him. And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy. And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go and answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day? And they could not answer him again to these things. And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them, When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; and he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Sermon Quinquagesima Canon Steven Dart February 11, 2024

“And now abideth faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” (1 Cor. 13:13)

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels and have not charity I am become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal And though I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge and though I have all faith so that I could remove mountains and have not charity I am nothing And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor and though I give my body to be burned and have not charity it profiteth me nothing Charity suffereth long and is kind charity envieth not charity vaunteth not itself is not puffed up Doth not behave itself unseemly seeketh not her own is not easily provoked thinketh no evil Rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth Beareth all things believeth all things hopeth all things endureth all things Charity never faileth but whether there be prophecies they shall fail whether there be tongues they shall cease whether there be knowledge it shall vanish away For we know in part and we prophesy in part But when that which is perfect is come then that which is in part shall be done away When I was a child I spake as a child I understood as a child I thought as a child but when I became a man I put away childish things For now we see through a glass, darkly but then face to face now I know in part but then shall I know even as also I am known And now abideth faith hope, charity these three but the greatest of these is charity 1 Corinthians 13

“And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring forth no fruit to perfection.” (Luke 8:14)

And that which fell among thorns are they which, when they have heard go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life and bring forth no fruit to perfection Luke 8:14 gospel parable of the sower And when much people were gathered together and were come to him out of every city He spake by a parable
A sower went out to sow his seed and as he sowed, some fell by the way side and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it
And some fell upon a rock and as soon as it was sprung up it withered away because it lacked moisture
And some fell among thorns and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it
And other fell on good ground and sprang up and bare fruit an hundredfold And when He had said these things He cried he that hath ears to hear, let him hear
And His disciples asked him, saying What might this parable be
And He said Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God but to others in parables that seeing they might not see and hearing they might not understand
Now the parable is this The seed is the word of God
Those by the way side are they that hear then cometh the devil and taketh away the word out of their hearts lest they should believe and be saved
They on the rock are they which, when they hear receive the word with joy and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away
And that which fell among thorns are they which when they have heard go forth and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life and bring no fruit to perfection
But that on the good ground are they which in an honest and good heart having heard the word keep it and bring forth fruit with patience

Sermon I Advent Father Darius Gasatura December 3, 2023

“And that, knowing the time, that now is high time to awake out of sleep for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.” (Romans 13:11-14)
