To God Be Praise and Glory!
Christ Anglican Church in Carefree, Arizona began as an outreach from the clergy of Saint Nicholas Anglican Church in Scottsdale, Arizona in July of 1997. We are a founding member of the Diocese of the Southwestern States in the Anglican Province of Christ the King. For the love of God and to glorify His Son Jesus Christ, the charter members of Christ Church Parish gave sacrificially to buy property, erect an altar and build a Church that was consecrated on the Feast of Christ the King in 1999. This is the sacred ground where the faithful regularly proclaim God’s truth through Catholic order as it is embodied in the historic Book of Common Prayer, where they hear the Gospel and receive the Holy Sacraments. Christ Church dedicated the Dorothy McGinnis Memorial Community Hall in October of 2000, a facility that provides meeting space for the Sunday school and parish family activities. To help expand God’s kingdom on earth, Christ Church partnered with Saint Nicholas Parish to establish Atonement Church in Fountain Hills, Arizona and sponsored it as a parochial mission for seven years.
Our parish serves the community in a variety of ways. We led the formation of the Foothills Caring Corps, an organization that has grown into its own with now eight staff members and over 550 volunteers. The Foothills Caring Corps has donated well over forty thousand hours to assist homebound elderly members of our community with rides to medical appointments, grocery shopping, friendly visits, mobile meals, van trips to cultural events, and other helps. We are also the home of the Christ Church Composers Guild, which is committed to preserving and sustaining the art of musical composition. Jubilate Conservatory of Music, one of their programs, is focused on educating children in music and the arts. Finally, we are involved with 24/7 Sobriety Success, an online educational series that helps people suffering from addictions to develop the emotional skills and healthy habits needed to recover.
What We Believe
Our beliefs are based on the Holy Bible and the time-honored creeds of the Church. We uphold family values and New Testament morality and use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer for our worship services. With Jesus Christ and His sacrament of Holy Communion at our core, we worship God and preach the Gospel in the beauty and ordered dignity of Christ-centered service. We are a sacramental church, believing that God works through matter in the waters of Holy Baptism, in the bread and wine of the Holy Eucharist. He works through each of us as His Body, the Church.
Anglican Province of Christ the King
Christ Anglican Church is a member parish of the Anglican Province of Christ the King.
The Anglican Province of Christ the King (APCK) represents Apostolic Christianity in the Anglican tradition. Our beliefs are stated in the ancient creeds of the church and on the pages of the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. We are committed to traditional forms of doctrine and liturgy. The APCK is composed of three dioceses with parishes and missions throughout the United States and Canada.
The APCK has moved from a small diocese of concerned Episcopalians to a confident, growing Anglican Province of over forty congregations working to maintain and promote the historic Christian faith in the Anglican tradition with new churches being built across the country.
Our Vision, Mission, and Values
Our purpose is to fulfill the Great Commandment and Great Commission given to us by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To worship Almighty God, serve His only Son Jesus Christ, and bring all people to Him by the grace and power of the Holy Spirit.
- Matthew 22:37 Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
- Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Our vision is to be a parish that pours itself out for God, makes disciples, strengthens the faithful, and hands the Christian Faith to the next generation.
Our mission is to be an authentic parish family that shows the love of Jesus Christ in all we say and do.
Cave Creek Cross
In the spring of 2008, Christ Anglican Church commissioned sculptor Robert Thornley (1941 – 2012) to carve a monumental stone cross for its courtyard at Cave Creek and New River Roads in Carefree Arizona. The Cave Creek Cross was installed and dedicated on the Feast of Christ the King in November of 2009. It is an expression of the devotional life of Christ Church Parish and a witness to the eternal truths of the Christian Faith.
The Angel of Consolation
In November 2020, Christ Anglican Church was blessed to receive a beautiful statue, named the Angel of Consolation. A gift from the family of Jesse Wilson, this plate silhouette created by nationally-known artist Lei Hennessy-Owen of Jennerstown, Pennsylvania stands thirteen feet high. The artist originally dedicated the statue in loving memory of Pat Tillman, a professional football player with the Arizona Cardinals. He left the game to fight terrorism overseas in the U.S. Army, where he gave his life for his country. The Angel contains steel from the ruins of the World Trade Center and is part of a group of statues called “Freedom’s Steadfast Angels of Love,” one of which stood at Ground Zero in New York, another at the Pentagon, and another at the crash site of Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
