Music at Christ Anglican Church

Christ Anglican Church is a singing parish! Through the rich hymnody found in the 1940 Hymnal, one visit will convince you that we love to sing! In this way, each parishioner is an important part of our music program. Many of the hymns we offer to God date back many hundreds of years, and the beauty of the words and music, and the truth within, inspire us anew even today.

The Parish Choir

In addition, our Parish Church Music Group, under the direction of Deaconess Jocelyn Obermeyer, presents anthems throughout the year during the 10:30 a.m. sung Mass, and all ages and abilities are welcome! We are an intimate, prayerful group of dedicated volunteer vocalists and musicians. A few are professionally trained and a few are not. We call upon the Holy Spirit to lead us and we remain sensitive to His Ways. We are not performers. Perfection is not our goal. Each member’s personal best will glorify God! We worship our Lord through music and lead the congregation to do so as well. Contact Music Director Deaconess Jocelyn via the “Get In Touch” button below with your questions.

Guitar Choir Ensemble

Announcing our new Guitar Choir Ensemble. Under the direction of Alastair Longley-Cook, our Guitar Choir adds another dimension and layer of musicality to our Sunday sung Mass at 10:30 a.m.

Alastair has also added a list of Taizé songs for occasional use for the Offertory Anthem. The singing of distinctive and much-repeated prayer chants during Mass is one of its trademarks. Taizé music highlights simple phrases, usually lines from the Psalms or other pieces of scripture, repeated or sung in canon. The repetition is designed to help meditation and prayer. It is sung softly and with reverence. Both the choir and congregation join together during these songs. The Sung Eucharist is offered at the 10:30 Mass.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the LORD.
